Nick Riewoldt believes mid-season is the sweet spot for a potential return of State Of Origin footy, after AFL CEO Andrew Dillon put it back on the agenda.
“Once every two or three years, I’d do it in the middle of the season when the players are fit. End of season you won’t get enough players, the product wouldn’t be as good.”
“The success of the Indigenous All-Stars has made the rest of the competition look at that; the friendships formed, and the honour of receiving a jumper,” Roo said.
The St Kilda legend admits club’s wanting to protect their players remains the biggest barrier for a return to representative footy.
“The game has become so professional. Players are managed within an inch of their lives.”
Mick Molloy argues the league should honour top players in each state, every year – similar to All-Australian accolades.
