Max Gawn faced the music after being on the losing side of the greatest comeback in AFL/VFL history, describing the final stages to Triple M’s Mick In The Morning.

“We need to learn how to win…” Gawn told Mick In The Morning on Monday.

Gawn details the dramatic last 8 seconds with scores level, as a free kick was given to St Kilda before Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera kicked the post-siren goal to win the game.

“I realised we had two or three seconds to find a winger … I sent Vines [Jack Viney] to the win and get a forward in, but it was actually a back that we had too many of.”

The Melbourne skipper is backing his coach Simon Goodwin, admitting the players had to act quicker to halt St Kilda’s onslaught of goals.

“He’s my favourite coach, he’s a premiership coach. I find him extremely smart tactically … The last quarter’s not solely on him.”
