Jack Karlson, the man behind one of Australian cultures most celebrated moments, has passed away. Triple M Breakfast with Marto, Margaux & Dan paid special tribute to Democracy Manifest’s Jack Karlson – the man who also brought us “I see you know your Judo well”, and “What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?”

RIP Jack Karlson.

As Marto, Margaux and Dan agreed: “A true Aussie legend.”

Karlson inspired arguably the greatest meme, certainly that originated in Australia. All over the world people have enjoyed his iconic on-camera reaction to being arrested for attempting to ‘dine and dash’ at a Sydney Chinese restaurant.

From the struggle he gave to the team of police officers trying to wrangle Karlson into their paddy wagon, to his angry insistence – in that booming, Shakespearean voice – that they take their hands off his penis, every moment has been recreated and celebrated for decades.

All captured by two (two!) news cameras and reported for the Australian nightly news.

You just don’t see that sort of thing anymore.

Jack Karlson has always held a place close to the heart of the Triple M Brisbane team.

In addition to the personal tributes from Marto, Margaux Parker and Dan Anstey, the Triple M team reflected on the racehorse(!) ‘Democracy Manifest’, and got Tex & The Rum Lords to join the tribute.

They also gave away a succulent Chinese meal to a listener. It’s what he would have wanted.

The team also spoke to Chris Reason. Reason was the then junior reporter who was on the ground back in 1991 outside the Chinese restaurant where the arrest took place: LISTEN HERE

The extra details Reason shares are incredible!

Triple M pays tribute to democracy manifest’s Jack Karlson. Thank you for the memes you bloody legend.
