After the success of last week’s AFL Gather Round in South Australia, Eddie McGuire has revealed why we should expect to see AFL’s Gather Round to land in Brisbane in only a few years.
LISTEN HERE:
McGuire said the first Gather Round was a huge commercial success for South Australia.
“…it’s a tourist play. The giveback to South Australia on the weekend was probably north of 60 – 70 million dollars. It was unbelievable.
“Spot tourism is one of the biggest tourist baits these days. Everyone’s bucket list is usually a Masters golf, or a Super Bowl, or an F8 up, or a World Cup, or an Olympics game etcetera, etcetera. The way you guys have the Olympics coming in 2032, the build up into Queensland over the next few years will be significant and I think if the AFL get this right, this is what they should be doing.” McGuire said.
