Gorden Tallis Weighs In On Jack Wighton’s Retirement From Origin

Triple M’s and Broncos legend Gorden Tallis believes Jack Wighton’s shock retirement from representative football was a club decision.

Speaking with Liam from The Rush Hour with Leisel Jones, Liam and Dobbo, Tallis reflected on when he made the decision to retire from rep footy and said he knows whats made Wighton make the move.

“To me that can mean two things, right? So I retired from rep footy. For me, the Broncos was so good to me. When you play for Australia, you come back, and when you play State of Origin you can miss four games a year, five games a year, for your club over eight or nine years.

That can end up being a lot of games of footy. You probably miss a season,” Tallis said on The Rush Hour with Leisel Jones, Liam and Dobbo.

“That leads towards Jack Wighton getting the money that he wants, and probably staying at the Raiders, and saying ‘I will give you a full season. I will focus on winning the comp at the next club I go to’. That’s what I read into it.

“I think it’s a club decision. I actually think it’s got nothing to do about not wanting to play for your state or country. I think it’s about giving back to your club.

“I didn’t think about Queensland Australia, my focus was on the Broncos and the young kids coming through, and getting them in the position when our big stars are away, that the club are in good hands,” said Tallis.
