Recently retired Richmond star Trent Cotchin believes a move to Gold Coast will benefit his former coach Damien Hardwick.
“It’ll be a different environment for him, but what I’m hearing is he’s excited for a different challenge,” Cotchin said on Triple M’s Marty Sheargold Show.
Hardwick departed Richmond mid-season after citing over-exhaustion from the rigours of coaching, before being lured to the Gold Coast vacancy by club bosses.
“Seeing him at Richmond, knowing how tired and burnt out he actually looked, and then to catch up with him the day he told me [about the Gold Coast job], to see the colour back in his face and his eyes blue as they’ve been. It’s an interesting decision, but one he’s put a lot of time into.”
“I just hope it’s not ‘jeez the carrot was pretty good’, but 12-24 months down the track he realises ‘I am tired’.”
