“I Thought They Were Good For 50 minutes… I’m Pretty Optimistic” Phil Waugh Not Fazed By All Blacks

Rugby Australia CEO and former Wallaby Phil Waugh is feeling optimistic about Australia’s chances in Game 2 of the Bledisloe Cup this Saturday in Dunedin.

LISTEN HERE:

Speaking on The Rush Hour with Gus, Jude & Wendell, Waugh still has faith in a side that had a winless start to the Rugby Championship.

More disappointingly, they lost the first Bledisloe Cup test match last weekend in Melbourne 38-7.

“They’ll be better for the run last week’, said Waugh.

“I thought they were pretty good for about 50 minutes and then obviously the All Blacks ran away with it.

“Tate McDermott gets his first chance as captain which I think is good,

“Then you’ve got Carter Gordon who can steer the team around pretty well.”

The Wallabies are 0-1 down going into Saturday’s final game, having not lifted the cup since all the way back in 2002, regardless of the result, the prized trophy will remain across the ditch.

Though a desperate Wallabies side will be aiming to re-shift their focus towards the upcoming Rugby World Cup.

Phil Waugh also addresses the grassroots level issues within Australian rugby union which you can hear in the clip above!
