Mitchell Pearce on Footy Talk’s Half-Time alongside Todd Carney, explained why recalled Queensland Maroons star Kalyn Ponga could be the x-factor that determines the series.
LISTEN HERE:
Ponga famously made his State of Origin debut in Game Two of 2018 coming off the bench and was used in the same role that’s expected of him in Game Three of this year’s series.
“In 2018 he played that magical debut,” started Pearce.
“He came on at lock and historically Queensland have used Cooper Cronk, Daly Cherry-Evans, these types of players in that lock role.”
“When you go back to that debut he was nearly their best player.”
Sentiments shared with the eighth immortal Andrew Johns, who had the time stated it was the “best debut in Origin history.”
