The Surprise AFL Connection That Helped Ryan Papenhuyzen Overcome His Knee Injury

Melbourne Storm star Ryan Papenhuyzen spent a whopping 14 months on the sidelines after a debilitating broken kneecap midway through the 2022 NRL season.

It came as part of a horror run with injury that also included a broken leg on his return, as well as concussion.

“(The) worst day was probably around that eight, nine month mark where I thought I’d be back,”

“You just question whether it’s ever going to be the same again.”

But a bit of cross-code love thanks to an AFL star who’d overcome a similar injury around that period, over a coffee or two, helped spur him on
