The South Sydney Rabbitohs pulled of one of the biggest signing coups this decade when they announced the signature of State of Origin superstar Jack Wighton last week.
A Canberra junior, the Raiders were hopefully of keeping their Dally M medal winning five-eighth, before the Rabbitohs struck at the eleventh hour and signed Wighton on a four-year-deal.
South Sydney owner Russell Crowe told Triple M Breakfast with Marto, Margaux and Dan that the signing of Wighton was a decision ten years in the making.
“Everyone knows my job (as South Sydney owner) works best with attention to detail and collaboration.” Crowe said.
“There’s discussions all the time on who suits you club and what club that you want to be and you zero in on those targets.
“To be honest Jack Wighton has been in South Sydney conversations for a decade. He’s the type of player that we respect and admire.
“I don’t involve myself in the deal making, but it’s obvious that a player has indicated that South Sydney is his kind of club and he wants to come to us.
