Deserved Trindall Extension Creates Atkinson Headache For Cronulla Sharks

Braydon Trindall is in line for a well deserved contract extension by the Cronulla Sharks at season’s end.

The five-eighth has been in superb form since his return from suspension for off-field discretions and has gotten himself into the position of being the Sharks chief playmaker.

Though, reportedly only on a little over a third of million dollar-a-season Nicho Hynes, Trindall is in order for a well earned pay rise.

But it leaves the Sharks in a sticky situation.

Young halfback Daniel Atkinson earned himself much praise and many admirers when slotting in for an injured Hynes through the back-half of the season.

Importantly, Atkinson’s contract up at the end of 2025, the Shire outfit are at the risk of losing many other regular starters and stars from November 1 onwards this year, which could force the young halfback further down the pecking order of resignatures.

Interestingly, Cronulla find themselves on the opposite end of when they managed to poach Hynes from Melbourne Storm.

The Victorians couldn’t fit the future Dally M medallist into a regular, starting position within their side and were forced to watch him move to Sydney’s south.

With what has been labelled as a “halfback shortage”, Atkinson’s situation will have many clubs on high alert.
