Peter Siddle secretly recruited Sir Alastair Cook for a short stint of Sheffield Shield cricket while he was in Tasmania, only for it to fall through close to the season.
The pair played for Essex in England’s county cricket competition, striking up a friendship after a fierce international rivalry.
“I don’t know if many people know this, it’s never really come out, but had him signed to come play at Tassie,” Siddle said on Willow Talk.
“He was going to come out, play a few games then he was here for the Ashes.
“Could have worked in the commentary.”
