Hero, Hardship, Highlight | How Injury Pain Turned Into Premiership Gain For Peter Wynn

Legendary Parramatta Eels hard man Peter Wynn sat down with Gus, Jude & Wendell for The Rush Hour’s Hero, Highlight, Hardship podcast.

A three-time premiership player, Wynn was a denied a fourth, in actual fact, what would have been his first title because of injury in 1981.

Wynn explained the pains seeing his teammates achieve the ultimate goal.

‘Second game we played Canterbury at Cumberland Oval [in 1981],’ explained Wynn.

‘I snapped my cruciate ligament, didn’t play for 12 months.

‘That was hard because Parramatta won the grand final that year and all my mates were in the team.’

‘It was tough and I got a golden staph infection!’

Though, Wynn would win his first title in 1982 but featured off the bench.

It was actually the 1983 premiership where Wynn would be able to show his true quality on the grandest stage as the Eels would go onto beat Manly 18-6.

Wynn further explains why the 1983 title is his most prized achievement and also shares a hilarious yarn about Tommy Raudonikis and Steve Mortimer during New South Wales camp.
