Greg Blewett Explains The Shakeup Of Next Summer’s Test Schedule

Triple M’s Greg Blewett has dropped some mail on what the 2023/24 summer of Test cricket will look like, with Adelaide Oval set for a return to a traditional date.

LISTEN HERE:

The 2023/24 Test summer will see the West Indies down under for two Tests for the second year in a row, with Pakistan here for three matches.

Blewy said that the summer will look a bit different to what we’re used to, with the Pakistan series kicking off in mid-December, with the second Test — and fifth of the season — against the West Indies being played in late January.

The shift to later in the summer means Adelaide Oval is set to regain a previously traditional game.

“We (Adelaide) will get the fifth Test, which will be the Australia Day [match],” Blewy said.

“I thought it was gonna be the 21st (of January), but I think it might be starting a little bit later and include Australia Day.”

Blewey’s mail comes after he last week advocated for Adelaide Oval to be handed the New Year’s Test, which is traditionally played at the SCG.

Recent years have seen the marquee match struggle to live up to the billing, with six of the last nine Tests ending in draws and 21 days of cricket impacted by rain in that time.

87,000 spectators turned up to Adelaide Oval over four days to see Australia beat the West Indies in early December last year, despite an underwhelming series amid a disappointing showing from the Caribbean collective.
