Tom Jonas Says He’s A Chance To Play Again This Season Despite Calf Injury

Port Adelaide skipper Tom Jonas has told the Rush Hour with Bernie, Blewey and Jars that he could play again this season despite the calf injury that sidelined him for the qualifying final.

TOM JONAS SAYS HE CAN PLAY AGAIN DESPITE CALF INJURY:

“There’s certainly a sniff, I obviously need a few things to go my way,” Jonas said.

“The boys need to keep winning, that’s important.

“But I reckon I’ll have a crack at running either late this week or early next week.

“There’ll be no stone left unturned to make sure I’m around the mark if the opportunity arises… I’ve got the rest of my life to recover.”

Jonas was an onlooker as Port lost the qualifying final to Brisbane by 48 points at the Gabba, forcing them to a cut-throat semi-final against GWS this coming Saturday night.

The retiring captain watched on as defenders Trent McKenzie and Dylan Williams went down with ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.

Jonas would have been a likely call up to the side if it weren’t for the calf issue.

MORE ON PORT ADELAIDE:

There are positive signs for McKenzie, however.

“He was frustrated because he’s had a rough trot, he’s done a similar thing before,” Jonas said.

“Fortunately we feel like it’s one of those injuries we’ll be able to manage throughout the week and hopefully get up.”

MORE ON THE FOOTY FINALS:

Jonas also explained to the Rush Hour crew how the training ground calf injury came about.

“Honestly I was just taking a couple of catches (marks) at the end of training… and I’ve copped a golf ball to the calf, is what it felt like,” he said.

“I’ve turned around, no golf ball to be seen, and I’ve just thought ‘jeeze, I’ve done a calf here’.

“I’ve heard this story a few times and now it’s me!”
