Triple M Footy news breaker Tom Browne says that Western Bulldogs president Kylie Watson-Wheeler is now favourite for the AFL CEO job when Gillon McLachlan leaves the post.
“Kylie Watson-Wheeler… is now in my view, the favourite to take over from Gil McLachlan,” Browne said on Tom Browne’s News.
“Gil’s indicated this morning… that the end is now getting pretty close as far as his tenure’s concerned.
“And it’s certainly a club view, across a number of clubs I’ve spoken to offline, that Richard Goyder, the Commission Chairman, is reluctant — this is a club view — to now give it to Andrew Dillon, and will go with Kylie Watson-Wheeler.”
Browne said that while momentum had shifted in favour of Watson-Wheeler — who is also Senior Vice President & Managing Director of Disney in Australia & New Zealand — it’s unlikely any decision would be made very soon.
“Now that’s got a bit to play out, because Dillon’s been a favourite, and is very well qualified for the job,” he said.
“But I believe there’s a lot of momentum now for Watson-Wheeler to take as over as the AFL CEO… I think it’ll play out post-Gather Round, the AFL wants to keep the focus clearly on Gather Round.”
