The Niche Reference That Proves Nick Daicos Is A Huge Footy Nuffy

Young Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos made a niche reference while speaking to Triple M Footy that showed how big a footy nuffy the young Pie is.

Daicos played a starring role in Collingwood’s win over Adelaide at the MCG on Sunday with 37 touches, 8 clearances and a goal, and spoke to to Triple M Footy in the rooms immediately post-game.

Nathan Brown brought up John Noble’s two late tackles that helped repel the Crows, who were pushing hard to try and conjure a winning goal with two points the difference and under two minutes remaining.

Daicos said it brought back memories of a late moment in the 2012 grand final, when Sydney beat Hawthorn by nine points.

“Yeah, it sort of reminded me of Marty Mattner in the 2012 granny, when he did it on that outer wing,” the young gun Pie said.

“It was very reminiscent of that!”

Late in the fourth quarter of the 2012 grand final, Hawthorn running back Grant Birchall was approaching a loose ball in space, and looked set to run away with the footy.

Mattner hunted Birchall and took him down, with the ball eventually going out for a throw in.

From that stoppage, the Swans forced the ball inside 50, which eventually ended with Nic Malceski snapping a famous sealing goal.

The Triple M Footy Sunday call team of Joey Montagna, Nathan Brown, Steve Johnson, Jack Heverin and Michael Roberts were impressed with Daicos’s recall, with Joey saying it showed the precocious Pie’s “footy IQ”.

Joey also asked about another demonstration of Daicos’s nous — the 50 metre penalty that put Collingwood ahead late in the fourth term.

Noble’s tackles helped the Pies complete the now-customary come from behind victory on Sunday, winning by two points after trailing the Crows by 13 at three quarter time.

The narrow win kept Collingwood top of the ladder, sitting at 12-2 after 14 games and above Port Adelaide on percentage.

The Crows, meanwhile, stayed in 8th spot, just under 1% above reigning premiers Geelong.

Collingwood fly to Heritage Bank Stadium to take on the Gold Coast Suns this week, while Adelaide have a home game against North Melbourne.
