Triple M Footy news breaker Jay Clark has explained how Ben McKay is helping Essendon to be “huge players” in the free agency and trade space in the near future.
“Just about the highest paid player in the competition this season, Benny McKay, because of the very unique way his deal is structured,” Jay said on the Rush Hour with JB & Billy.
“He signed a six year deal at Essendon, including a first year pay wage of 1.4 million dollars.
“So he gets 1.4 in the pay packet this year…”
Jay explained that the way McKay deal is structured, Essendon can target high profile free agents and trade targets in the future.
“It means they’re gonna be absolutely huge players in the free agency and trade market in coming years,” he said.
“Brad Scott’s whole plan is to load up, continue to load with their high draft picks, keep their early picks, and then use the free agency market and then go absolutely shopping in two or so years time.”
MORE FROM JAY CLARK:
Jay also discussed the watch on Harrison Petty, Richmond’s injury woes, club issues with long term contracts and more.
