Woman Charged With Stealing $50,000 Worth of Cartier From Sydney International Airport

A woman from Sydney’s south-west is expected to appear in court today after being charged with allegedly stealing over $50,000 worth of luxury designer items from a Cartier store at Sydney’s International Airport.

The matter was initially investigated by the Australian Federal Police earlier this month, following complaints from the luxury airport store accusing an employee of theft.

At Sydney’s Downing Centre local court today, it will be alleged that the 38-year-old Kingsgrove woman, who was employed by the store, stole 15 items with an estimated value of $50,225.

Police searched the woman’s home a fortnight ago, where they found four bracelets, three pens, two lighters and bracelet keys, a pair of earrings, a wallet, a candle, and a men’s pendant.

If found guilty, theft by an employee carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment.

“This woman allegedly abused her position within the airport terminal for personal gain,” AFP Detective Superintendent Morgen Blunden said in a statement.

Head of Security at Sydney Airport Graham White said the airport had zero-tolerance for crime, and especially criminal acts committed within the precinct.

“We’d like to thank the AFP for their commitment to resolving this matter swiftly, and our airport operations team and retail tenant for their collaborative efforts which contributed to the positive outcome,” Mr White said.
