A 49-year-old woman has been charged with murder following the discovery of another woman’s body in the Maribyrnong River in Melbourne.
A passerby reported the scene at 10:30am on Sunday near Smithfield Rd in Flemington.

The victim has yet to be formally identified.
Police confirmed on Monday that they were treating the woman’s death as suspicious and that the homicide squad was investigating.
On Tuesday afternoon, police arrested a woman and a 15-year-old boy from West Footscary in connection with case.
After being interviewed, the woman was charged with murder and remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
The boy was released without charge.
Both individuals are believed to have known the deceased.
This incident followed another discovery approximately 90 minutes earlier when the body of a man was found by a passerby in the same river in Footscray.
Police said that the deaths are not linked and that the man’s death is not considered suspicious.
He has yet to be formally identified.
Authorities are seeking assistance from the public and are particularly interested in obtaining CCTV or dashcam footage from the areas around Glamis Rd in West Footscray or Smithfield Rd in Flemington near Lynch’s Bridge.
The time frame of interest is between 12pm on Friday and 10:30am on Sunday.
