Why Shaun Micallef Keeps Getting TV’s Top Gigs

Shaun Micallef is one of Australia’s most recognisable faces. He’s an actor, writer, television host and comedian.

He is also one of few Australian comedians to have continued success in the industry, having first gained recognition as a cast member of the hilarious sketch comedy show Full Frontal.

Listen to Antoinette Lattouf’s chat with Shaun Micallef here:

Now Shaun is back with another show on the cards, Shaun Micallef’s Origin Odyssey on SBS. He takes six comics ‘back to where they came from’ for want of a better expression.

In this chat with Antoinette Lattouf, Shaun explains how he keeps getting the top television gigs and what he actually thinks of his reviews.

Antoinette asks Shaun why he believes he is part of the monopoly of comedians who continue to receive hosting gigs, including Charlie Pickering, Wil Anderson, and Guy Montgomery.

“I’m not sure I have a full answer for you, but I’ve long suspected the reason that I ended up on television in the first place was precisely for the same reason that I’m still on television,” he said.

“Because of my colour, because of my gender, because of my height, because of the deepness of my voice. I think I probably looked like what you would expect to see hosting a television programme and that made me an appealing prospect.”
