Why Is Matt & Alex Host Alex Dyson Running For Politics?

All Day Breakfast host Alex Dyson confirmed he’s throwing his hat in the ring as an Independent candidate for the Victorian seat of Wannon at the next federal election.

Alex Dyson has been working in breakfast radio since 2010 and confirmed on his Matt & Alex – All Day Breakfast podcast he’s running for politics again.

Dyson explains his motivation for his latest run at parliament and gives his honest assessment of politicians he thinks didn’t quite live their values, on The Briefing:

For the third time, he’ll go up against the Liberal Party’s Dan Tehan, former Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, who is the current sitting Member for the seat.

The Briefing Host Bension Siebert asked Dyson what he thinks needs to change in Australian politics and whether a Parliament full of independents would drive more change.

“I think there’s place for parties, but they need to have their focus on doing the best thing for their electorates and getting rid of the egos,” Dyson said.

“That’s probably why we get a lot of people in their wrong mind running for parliament… There’s a lot of power, a lot of prestige,” he said.

Dyson said this week the New South Wales Premier paid credits to former Liberal Party members for Sydney’s new Metro tunnel.

“When I first did my run in 2019, I, to Mr Tom Tilly on the Triple J Hack program, paid tribute to Dan Tehan’s role, the current incumbent honour… He was the guy who helped get a cancer ward in Warrnambool and that was really personal to me because my mom passed away from cancer in a regional area,” he said.
