Victoria Police Arrest 70 ‘Notorious’ Family Violence Offenders In Crackdown

Over the weekend Victoria Police pursued some of the state’s “most notorious” family violence perpetrators in a major operation.

Almost 70 offenders, many actively evading authorities, have been arrested in Melbourne’s Southern Metro Region in three days.

The Briefing has a four-part limited series on family violence, the first episode is on how to spot an abusive relationship:

Most of those arrested have allegedly committed multiple violent crimes against current and former partners, including assaults, threats, harassment and technology-facilitated abuse.

Southern Metro Region Inspector Rodney Maroney said, “It shows just how serious we are in ensuring family violence offenders are held responsible for their actions and the harm they wreak on their partners and children.”

Some have blackmailed victims to not disclose their whereabouts, have multiple outstanding warrants and have disregarded family violence intervention orders.

Technology has become a weapon for perpetrators of abuse to coerce, stalk and harass another person using household devices.

Forensic cyber expert Rose MacDonald shares how to spot technology-facilitated abuse on this episode of Crime Insiders:
