Train commuters in Adelaide face potential disruptions as train drivers threaten a 24-hour strike over a protracted pay dispute.
The strike may coincide with next month’s AFL Showdown between Port Adelaide and the Adelaide Crows.
The Rail, Tram, and Bus Union (RTBU) has informed private rail operator Keolis Downer Adelaide (KDA) of the planned stoppage on May 2.
RTBU Secretary Darren Phillips expressed concern for footy fans and urged a resolution before the strike date.
“We are absolutely concerned for footy fans wanting to come into town,” Mr Phillips said.
“There is plenty of time between now and then to avoid that action and for us to sit down at the table and thrash this deal out.”
The union demands a 20 per cent pay rise over four years, while KDA offers 14.7 per cent over the same period.
Mr Philips said the RTB would not confirm the strike until a meeting with KDA next Friday.
KDA expressed disappointment over the strike proposal, vowing to pursue a suitable resolution.
This event follows a series of recent work stoppages, including disruptions to Footy Express services and peak-hour closures.
