A woman has died in hospital after a house fire in New South Wales’s Central West.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, has left locals reeling as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Freshwater Drive, Dubbo, after receiving reports of a house ablaze just before 4am on March 21, 2024.
Firefighters from Fire & Rescue NSW, accompanied by officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District, swiftly tackled the inferno, finding the 33-year-old unconscious.
Paramedics promptly administered emergency treatment before rushing her to Dubbo Base Hospital in critical condition.
Despite their best efforts, the woman’s condition deteriorated, and on the evening of Friday, March 22, 2024, she died in hospital.
Amidst the rescue efforts, a firefighter was also treated for smoke inhalation and subsequently hospitalised for assessment and observation.
Additionally, two police officers who responded to the scene required medical attention for smoke inhalation.
Further forensic analysis is anticipated once the structure is deemed safe for thorough investigation.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed by the police.
