According to the announcement, areas like Gatton and Laidley could reach 39°C, while St George and Charleville might see temperatures climb above 40°C.

BOM forecaster Jonathan How says these temperatures are “quite above average” for November.

He highlights that areas further west could see readings reach up to 10 degrees above typical levels.

“We expect to see some storms lingering due to the heat, but more extensive storms are expected from Saturday, which will further help to flush out the heat,” he said.

Isolated storms are also predicted in the region throughout the week, though significant cooling relief will not come until Saturday.

The Queensland Fire Department reported that a bushfire near Dirranbandi in southwest Queensland continues to burn and is advancing toward the township.

“If you left the area, it is not safe to return,” the warning advises.

“By 7 am, it was already 23°C in the town, with a forecast high of 42°C on Wednesday.”

Residents are urged to be mindful of heat exhaustion symptoms, including muscle cramps, irritability, and cognitive changes.
