Sony Group has launched an investigation following claims that a ransomware group breached its systems.
Randsomed.vc earlier this week made the claim and threatened to sell the stolen data on September 28.
“We have successfully compromissed [sic] all of Sony systems,” Ransomed.vc claimed on both on the clear and dark nets.
“We won’t ransom them! We will sell the data. Due to Sony not wanting to pay. DATA IS FOR SALE.”
At this stage, the breach is unconfirmed, with Sony saying to IGN in a statement, “We are currently investigating the situation, and we have no further comment at this time”.
Cyber Security Connect reported Ransomed.vc posted proof of the hack, including screenshots of internal log-in pages, an internal PowerPoint presentation and a number of Java files.
The alleged attack comes just months after Sony Group was compromised by Russian ransomware group C10p.
The group gained access to data as part of attacks on businesses which exploited a vulnerability in MOVEit Transfer.
In 2011, the group was the subject of the high-profile attack on its PlayStation Network – where millions of accounts and personal details were compromised.
