Broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson Dies, Aged 88

Veteran UK broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson has died, aged 88.

According to a family statement, Mr Parkinson died on Wednesday following “a brief illness”.

“After a brief illness, Sir Michael Parkinson passed away peacefully at home last night in the company of his family,” the statement read. 

“The family request that they are given privacy and time to grieve.”

In a career spanning seven decades, the journalist and author hosted his television talk show Parkinson from 1971 to 1982 and again in 1998 to 2007.

Mr Parkinson also took his talk shows internationally, including Parkinson in Australia.

Tributes have flooded social media for the talk show host.

Elton John remembered Mr Parkinson as “one of the greats”.

Soccer star David Beckham said he was lucky enough to “spend precious time” talking with Mr Parkinson about his two loves.

Mr Parkinson is survived by his wife Mary, and three sons.
