A baby is in hospital after a man allegedly poured hot coffee on the boy in a Brisbane park on Tuesday.
It’s alleged the nine-month-old baby was with his mother at Hanlon Park in Stones Corner when the unknown man approached and made the attack.
CCTV footage shows a man fleeing from the scene, who police believe will be able to help with inquiries.
He is described as 30 to 40 years old, with a proportionate build and tanned skin.
The footage shows the man wearing black and blue checked long-sleeve shorts, khaki-coloured shorts, a black hat, and reading glasses.
The baby was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said the baby had suffered burns to the face and arms.
Detective Inspector Paul Dalton said police believe the attack was deliberate and unprovoked.
“Going to a park on a beautiful winter’s day in Brisbane, enjoying your time with your baby, a friend and their baby, and to be approached like this and attacked in this way, it must be terrifying,” he said.
“Everyone has a right to feel safe in their community; this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Police have released the CCTV of the alleged attack and is urging anyone with information, including dashcam or home security footage to come forward.
