Mr Morrison is the first Australian political figure to visit Israel since the conflict began.

Israeli military told the pair Hamas militants used gliders and motorbikes as part of the attack, killing 57 residents and kidnapping 17.

In a statement, Mr Morrison said he was thankful to be joined by Mr Johnson in their showing of solidarity with Israel and the Jewish community.

“It is an opportunity to understand first-hand what is occurring on the ground, honour those who have been lost, show support to those who have suffered and are now engaged in this terrible conflict and discuss how to move forward,” Mr Morrison said.

Mr Johnson said he hoped his visit reminded the world of the events that unfolded at kibbutz Kfar Aza.

“I do worry that in the month that has passed since those atrocities, a kind of moral fog has descended,” he said.

“I personally utterly reject any attempt to equate the terrorism of Hamas with the work of the Israel Defence Forces to make sure this never happens again.”
