Three British military jets have been intercepted by Russian forces over the Black Sea on Monday.
According the Russian Defence Ministry, two Russian Su-27 fighter jets intercepted a RC-135 reconnaissance and electronic warfare plane and two Typhoon fighter jets.
The aircrafts were spotted flying over the Black Sea towards the Russian border.
“When approached by Russian fighters, the foreign military aircraft turned back from the state border of the Russian Federation,” the ministry said in a statement.
“The Russian planes safely returned to their airfield. There was no violation of the Russian border.”
Despite the Russian Defence Ministry claiming responsibility for the interception, the UK Ministry of Defence have not yet responded.
The news follows claims from Moscow that four US strategic bombers were intercepted on two separate occasions. The claims come as Russia works to contain an ongoing crisis with the Wagner group launching a rebellion against President Vladimir Putin
