Detectives and an arson chemist have spent much of Wednesday at the scene of a unit fire that’s killed a man at a Kilmore retirement village.
The Country Fire Authority received its call-out to the Kingsgate Village around 6.15am where two residential units had gone up in flames.
The occupant of one of the buildings managed to escape safely, however the body of a man was found inside the second unit.
The victim was yet to be identified and the case of the blaze is under investigation
Dozens of residents were evacuated after the fire broke out. The fire has since been brought under control.
The CFA said a number of structures were involved in the fire and occupants had left their buildings by the time crews arrived.
A smoke alert was also issued for neighbouring areas, where residents were told to keep roads clear and to close their doors and windows.
