Queensland Police have charged a 24-year-old man following an alleged deprivation of liberty incident in Newtown on the night of March 2.
The incident occurred around 11:15pm when a 36-year-old woman, after leaving a venue in the Toowoomba CBD, entered what she believed to be a rideshare vehicle.
The driver, identified as a Newtown man, allegedly drove the woman to an address in Newtown and took her into a structure on the property against her will.
Queensland Police said the woman managed to notify a friend, who promptly contacted the police.
Law enforcement officers arrived at the Newtown address shortly and took the 24-year-old man into custody.
The woman was subsequently transported to Toowoomba Base Hospital for assessment.
The man has been charged with deprivation of liberty and has been denied police bail.
He is set to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on March 4.
At the meantime, Toowoomba detectives are using any individuals who may have had similar experiences or information related to the incident to come forward.
Authorities also highlighted the availability of Alternative Reporting Options (ARO) for individuals.
ARO provides an online alternative for reporting sexual assault, granting the opportunity to share the circumstances of the assault with the police while maintaining the option of remaining anonymous.
