A Queensland man has been charged with murder and attempted murder following the Wednesday night Mackay shootings.
Police allege a 34-year-old woman was shot while sitting in her car outside a Robb Place residence around 4.30pm.
She suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
Two teenagers who were in the car were able to flee on foot and were not left injured.
Police understand the 31-year-old alleged gunman and the woman were not known to each other, however resided on the same street.
A 66-year-old man who tried to intervene shortly after was allegedly shot by the gunman in the had and sternum.
He was transported to the Mackay Base Hospital in as erious but stable condition and remained there Thursday morning.
Following the shootings, the man left the scene in a silver Mitsubishi Triton prior to police arrival.
Police made an emergency declaration including Robb Place, Paradise Street, Archibald Street, Kindermar Street and Denton Street.
The Mitsubishi Triton was tracked along the Bruce Highway near Hilton Street, where the man was taken into custody without incident.
The 31-year-old South Mackay man has been charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder and is due to appear before the Mackay Magistrates Court on Thursday.
