Overnight, over 150 firefighters fought to save the homes left behind by evacuated families on Wednesday night.

Teams continue to access damage properties to inform those who have left, with fears more destroyed homes could be found.

Emergency services minister, Stephen Dawson, said a huge amount of firefighting resources, including water bombers, were being used to battle the blaze.

“This is a significant fire … this will be a long-running incident and could take some time before the fire is brought under control given the situation, we find ourselves in terms of the wind and high temperatures,” he said.

On Thursday, the forecast peaked at 39C, with it set to fall to 35C on Friday and Saturday, before climbing back to 37C on Sunday.
