One person is dead and around a dozen injured after a shooting at the end of the parade celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory.
The Kansas City fire department confirmed the death, adding three people were in a critical condition, five in a serious condition and one with non-life-threatening injuries.
A further five have also sought their own medical attention after sustaining injuries at the event, but it is unclear if it was related to the shooting.
Two men have been taken into custody, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said.
“I’m angry at what happened today. The people who came to this celebration should expect a safe environment,” she said.
In a statement on their social media, the Chiefs’ said they were “truly saddened by the senseless acto of violence”.
“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and all of Kansas City,” the statement read.
“At this time, we have confirmed that all our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.”
