Oasis Reunion: Why The Duo ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’

Noel and Liam Gallagher, the two brothers behind the seminal British band Oasis, have announced a reunion tour marking the first time they’ve appeared together since 2009.

Noel quit the band just before they were due to take the stage in Paris after a massive backstage fight, and the brothers have waged war against each other ever since.

But in a twist, they’re now reportedly saying it’s now or never.

Music writer Cameron Adams explains what led to the change of heart, and why the two ‘Don’t look back in anger’ on this episode of The Briefing:

Once the biggest band in the world, the Oasis reunion tour is expected to make in the vicinity of $1 billion.

Music feature writer Cameron Adams said “It’s the day no rock fan thought was ever going to come… They’ve just been fighting on in social media and interviews.”

Adams said the duo confessed their first Australian tour in ’97 was their worst, “it was absolute mayhem.”

“Liam got arrested on the plane. They got banned from the airline. Liam headbutted a British backpacker in Brisbane. Total mess,” Adams said.

Adams said the uncertainty of how the Oasis tour will play out after years of tension between the brothers is part of what Oasis’ tour exciting.

“Are they going to finish this show or is this going to happen? Is it going to be a fight? So that’s the kind of the thrill,” he said.

“Everything’s so safe with rock music now. The bands are so beige and boring that that’s why people like Oasis. That sort of danger.”
