NSW Nurses Warned To Think Twice Before Posting On OnlyFans

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of NSW has sent an email to nurses and midwives across the NSW, warning them to think twice before posting content on OnlyFans.

OnlyFans is a content subscription service where users pay for exclusive content from creators, particularly popular for explicit adult content.

The email claims that OnlyFans profiles may be a distraction for patients and bring the profession into disrepute.

So, should nurses and midwives in NSW be allowed to use OnlyFans? Or should such behaviour be seen as breaching professional standards if practitioners post to these online content services?

In today’s episode of THIS ARVO IN SYDNEY, host Sacha Barbour Gatt and LiSTNR journalist Micaela Savage speak to Jme, an experienced nurse in the Greater Sydney area for the past 11 years who has recently started an OnlyFans account.

Pointing to her content, Jme said: “It’s not much different to what you would see in a Honey Birdette catalogue … I do not post full nudity or pornography.”

During their chat, she spoke to the financial incentives of being on the platform, noting that she had made $2,500 in under two weeks.

As to her take on the advice of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of NSW, she said:

If you are on a platform like OnlyFans, it doesn’t impact your ability to provide quality care to your patients, and it doesn’t make you less qualified than somebody else who works the same job as you.”

She said that although OnlyFans is a pretty grey area in the workplace, she has been proactive and informed her employer about her account.

My bosses knew 100%, and they were fine with it. They just were happy to be kept in the loop with what I was doing outside.”
Jme explained.

Savage also spoke to Professor Joellen Riley Munton, a Labour Law Expert at the University of Technology Sydney who thought the email was helpful and proactive.
