NSW Government To Hold State’s First Vaping Roundtable

The New South Wales Government has announced plans to hold a round table in November to address ongoing concerns surrounding vaping in schools.

Stakeholders were invited to attend the roundtable on November 16 to discuss how to prevent vaping in NSW schools.

Health experts, students, principals and other stakeholders will be in attendance.

Attendees include NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant, Manager of the Cancer Council NSW’s Tobacco Control Unit Alecia Brooks, leaders from the NSW department of education, NSW teachers federation, NSW P&C Federation, NSW Advocate for Children and Young People and a number of others.

All information presented at the roundtable will be used to influence future NSW Government policies that aim to crackdown on vaping in schools.

The roundtable follows a $6.8 million contribution from the Labor Government to prevent the sale of illegal vapes.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said that vaping is causing significant addiction among young people.

“The evidence suggests that vaping is now becoming a gateway for an increase in smoking rates in young people,” he said.

“This is a way to hear directly from schools, health experts and other key stakeholders on how we can begin to address this serious health issue in our schools.”
