Margot Robbie may not be nominated for an Oscar, but there is another Australia who is: Nicky Bentham.
While Robbie being snubbed has been all the headlines – her co-star Ryan Gosling even releasing a statement following his own nomination saying, “there’s no Ken without Barbie”, Australia is still represented at the awards.
Bentham is an Australian producer who’s been nominated for Best Live Action Short Film for her work on The After.
In this bonus episode of The Briefing, we speak to Bentham herself to find out what it’s like to be nominated for an Oscar and what it means for the future of her career.
“I found out by watching the live broadcast of the nomination announcement they do from LA and because the film had been shortlisted.
“It had been voted down to the last 15 in the category from hundreds and hundreds of submissions, so we knew that we had a one in three chance because it goes from 15 down to five for the nominations.
“So, we tuned in yesterday and were very eagerly and nervously watching to see if we were going to be in the top five. It was just an amazing.”
