Mount Isa Residents Told To Leave Immediately As Bushfire Conditions Escalate

Residents in Mount Isa’s Lake Moondarra Road have been urged to evacuate immediately as the bushfire warning escalates to an emergency.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said, “a large, fast-moving fire is burning near Moondarra Road. It is expected to impact Lake Moondarra within the coming hours”.

“Your life could be at risk. It will soon be too dangerous to drive.”

Thirty-two homes have been lost this week, according to Queensland’s Rural Fire Service.

It has warned firefighters of another tough day ahead.

“There is some concern around Mount Isa, and we are looking at what we can do to support that area being so remote in the western part of our state,” Peter Hollier said on Sunrise.

“So, looking at the weather we have today, still very extreme fire danger in the western part of Queensland.

“We are certainly looking at another challenging day.”

Elsewhere in the state, two Watch and Act warnings remain in place.

Residents at properties between Chinchilla Tara Road, Kogan Condamine Road, Tara Kogan Road and Weitzels Road are told to prepare to leave.

It is not safe to return for residents of properties better Chinchilla Tara Road, West Valley Road, and Tara Kogan Road.
