Manhunt Extends To Air And Water For Lewiston Gunman

The search for Wednesday’s Lewiston gunman has extended to the water, with the Coast Guard assisting efforts to locate the suspect.

Officials say they are looking for the suspect–40-year-old Robert Card, a member of the US Army Reserves – in the air and on water.

A spokesperson for the Coast Guard said a response boat crew is patrolling the water and an Air Station Cape Cod HC-144 fixed-wing aircraft is searching via air.

Coast Guards are “looking for any suspicious vessel right now”.

Card’s vehicle was found abandoned at Pejepscot Boat Launch in Lisbon, Maine, and records show he owns a small power boat.

On Wednesday local time, Card conducted shootings at Sparetime Recreation bowling alley and Schemengees Bar and Grille Restaurant in Lewiston, leaving at least 18 dead and dozens more wounded.

Shelter-in-place orders remain in effect as officials continue their search for Card.

Residents are advised to remain indoors, away from windows and keep doors locked.

Police have increased its patrols in Maine’s capital of Augusta and will continue to until Card is caught.

Augusta is about a 40-minute drive from Lewiston.

“Our focus remains on the safety of the City of Augusta,” the city said in a Facebook post.

“We are currently being advised that Lewiston has all the resources they need at their disposal and the Augusta Police Department remains ready to assist.

“We have enhanced our patrol numbers in the city and will remain with the same posture until the suspect in this case is apprehended.”

The Lewiston Public Schools district have also decided to close its campuses on Friday.
