A man has died after being shot by police outside Manning Base Hospital in Taree, NSW, on Thursday afternoon.
Police were called to Rouse Street in Wingham around 12:30pm after reports of gunshots being fired into the air.
Officers later found the man in the hospital car park.
It is alleged he pointed a gun at police, leading officers to open fire.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was treated by police and paramedics before being taken into the hospital, where he died a short time later.
No one else was injured in the incident.
A critical investigation is underway, led by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the man or the events leading up to the shooting.
