The fatal incident occurred when a grey sedan, driven by Thew, crashed into a tree and a power pole in Ashcroft on Monday.

The two teenagers lost their lives at the scene of the accident. After the collision, two individuals allegedly fled the wreckage.

Following the crash, police launched a search to locate the driver and the front-seat passenger.

Authorities subsequently arrested a 23-year-old and 27-year-old at Wetherill Park police station. Both individuals were transported to the hospital under police guard to assess injuries allegedly sustained during the accident.

On Wednesday, Mr Thew was released from the hospital and taken to Liverpool police station.

He faces a total of nine charges, including aggravated dangerous driving resulting in death while exceeding the speed limit by 45 kilometres per hour, failing to stop and assist after a fatal vehicle crash, and driving as a never-licensed person operating a vehicle on the road.

Thew has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear in Liverpool Local Court today.

The families of the two young boys who lost their lives released a statement expressing their profound grief over the tragedy.

“We are continuing to come to terms with the loss of our much-loved son and brother,” they said.

“We ask for privacy at this time, and we will not be conducting any media interviews while the police investigation continues.”
