“It’s blessed with amazing beaches, offers delicious food, wine, and spirits experiences, and delivers on the drama when it comes to outdoor adventures,” Lonely Planet’s Chris Zeiher said.
“And then there’s the wildlife!”
It’s the latest of recognition earned by the island – last year, Lonely Planet named it as one of Australia’s top 20 travel experiences and earlier this year, Tourism Australia named Stokes Bay the country’s best beach.
Kangaroo Island, Australia’s third largest island, is still recovering from bushfires which burnt through 38 per cent of it in 2020.
It’s easily accessible – a 45-minute ferry across Backstairs Passage.
Lonely Planet’s complete list of must-see travel destinations in 2024 included countries, cities, sustainable locations, and best value.
