Kamala Harris has officially accepted the Democratic presidential nomination with a powerful speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago.
Harris’s speech was met with enthusiastic cheers from thousands of delegates and supporters.
She expressed gratitude to her family, President Joe Biden, and vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz, reflecting on her journey to the top of the Democratic ticket.
“On behalf of everyone whose stories can only be written in the greatest nation on Earth, I accept your nomination to be President of the United States of America,” she said.
Throughout her address, Harris took aim at Republican nominee Donald Trump, criticising his previous administration’s actions and emphasising the importance of the upcoming election.
She vowed to restore reproductive rights, strengthen national security, and stand firm against authoritarian leaders.
“In the enduring struggle between democracy and tyranny, I know where I stand, and I know where the United States belongs,” Harris said.
During the speech, Harris also voiced her support for both Israel and Palestine amid the ongoing conflict in the region.
She highlighted the urgency of securing a hostage release and a ceasefire.
“President Biden and I are working to end this war, such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people can realise their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination.”
