Australian rock icon Jimmy Barnes has announced his much anticipated return to stage after suffering a life-threatening heart infection.
Barnes has revealed he was just hours away from death after receiving open heart surgery last December, but says he won’t let it stop him getting back on stage.
“I miss being on stage, I have to do it, I don’t have a choice. I need to get out there and scream, it just clears the emotions out of you,” Barnes said.

When Barnes was admitted to hospital, specialists discovered an infection in his heart and he underwent a seven hour heart operation.
Dr Paul Jansz said “If he didn’t die of the infection, he would’ve died from heart failure, from the whole valve falling apart.”
Barnes is now two months into rehabilitation and is set to perform at Byron Bay’s Bluesfest late March.
