Jetstar Pilot Stood Down After Illegal Drugs Found In Luggage

A Jetstar pilot has been stood down after traces of an illicit drug were allegedly detected on his luggage at Melbourne Airport.

The pilot underwent checks along with his passengers and other members of the crew after landing at the airport, following a flight from Bali.

During a routine screening, border authorities made a shocking discovery, leading to Australian Federal Police officers being alerted to the matter.

According to Nine News, there were also “drug-related” images on his phone.

Despite no actual drugs being found on him or his belongings, the officer was suspended under a zero-tolerance policy enforced by the aviation industry due to the serious safety risks associated with air travel.

The AFP has established an investigation, but no charges have been laid.

“The AFP investigated a report in Melbourne in May in relation to alleged drug possession at the airport,” an AFP spokesperson said in a statement.

“No criminal offences were identified and the AFP considers the matter closed.”

Jetstar refused to comment due to privacy concerns, but the airline is conducting an internal investigation into the matter.

“We have zero-tolerance towards pilots operating under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and always undertake testing in accordance with aviation regulations,” a Jetstar spokesperson said in a statement.
