“I’m Grateful”: Cody Simpson Reflects On Swimming Career After Teasing A Music Return

Cody Simpson says he has “left nothing to the unknown” across the last four years he was a part of the Australian Swim Team, as he now prepares for a return to music.

Simpson’s dream of representing Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympics went unrealised, after he failed to qualify in the 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly events.

In a post made to the 27-year-old’s Instagram on Monday, he said, “I’m grateful for a huge run in the short amount of time I have been a professional athlete and I wouldn’t trade a moment”.

“I promise I will never stop trying to do special things with my life.

“Shoot for the moon.. land among the stars. My shot has landed me in a constellation of stars otherwise known as that elusive club, the Australian Swim Team, forever.”

The post came after Simpson’s “bittersweet” ending on the final day of Australia’s Olympic and Paralympic swimming trials.

Simpson recorded a time of 51.79 in the 100m butterfly, placing him fifth overall and over the qualifying time of 51.17. Only Matt Temple beat the qualifying time, swimming 51.15 to earn himself a spot in the swim at Paris.

Following the event, he teased a return to the music and entertainment industry, saying he has “some exciting projects sort of lined up”.

“The discipline and resilience and perseverance that swimming has instilled in me is something I’m really excited to implement in my future endeavours.

“It’s just helped me grow so much. I can’t wait to take that back into music and entertainment.”

Earlier in the week, an average swim in the 100m freestyle heats cost Simpson a chance of earning a ticket to Paris.

He went on to swim in the B-Final, where he recorded 48.67 seconds – which was fast enough for him to qualify had it been in the A-Final swim.
