Firefighters across Queensland remain on high alert as a concerning mix of hot and windy conditions may exacerbate bushfires in various regions.
A state of extreme fire danger has been declared for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt area, which continues to grapple with a massive, ongoing bushfire.
Tragically, the blaze has already claimed the lives of two individuals and ravaged nearly 50 houses.
In the southeastern areas, including the Gold Coast, a high fire danger rating has been issued, with soaring temperatures expected to reach the mid-30s on Tuesday.
An approaching strong wind change in the afternoon is anticipated to escalate wind gusts to speeds surpassing 40km/h.
In response to this crisis, a total fire ban has been issued across the majority of Queensland.
The lightning of fires in the declared fire ban areas are prohibited subject to any special conditions or exemptions.
Furthermore, all permits to Light Fire issued in the designated area are cancelled.
Given the severity of the bushfire emergency, assistance from other states has been sought.
Victoria has dispatched six fire trucks to aid Queensland in managing the crisis.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, adhere to fire safety guidelines, and stay updated on emergency alerts and evacuation procedures to ensure their safety in the face of these challenging fire conditions.
